Sanitary landfills can be a source of clean, renewable energy. With the installation of its own infrastructure, it is possible to convert the gas released by the decomposition of organic material into electrical power.
Household waste, tree cuttings and other organic waste decompose and generate biogas, a flammable gas composed of methane and carbon dioxide, which contributes to the greenhouse effect if released directly into the atmosphere.
Burning it to generate energy solves this problem and also creates a renewable source.
Gas is captured by wells installed throughout the landfill and piped to the plant through a gas network that connects the wells. The gas is filtered and cooled and is then ready to be used as fuel in motor generators, which burn the biogas and generate electric power.
Estre has the potential to generate even more clean energy from biogas. This product complies with environmental regulations and is cost competitive with other sources of energy.
